Congratulations on 100 Years in Business

Kudos to Luepke Florist in Vancouver on their 100 year business anniversary. I attended their open house on Saturday and chatted with owners Maria and Alan (pictured above) in their beautiful historic store in downtown Vancouver.

Peterkort Roses' association with Luepke Florist goes way back - during World War II it was bouquets from Luepke Florist of Peterkort's roses held by the lucky ladies who christened the liberty ships produced by the Kaiser shipyard in Portland.

Sometime I intend to go down to the Oregon Historical Society and find pictures for our archives.....

My favorite things from the Luepke open house: picture posters from the past of the florist shop which they had displayed, and in the workroom a special chute leading to a trash can in the basement - just sweep the mess from the day's flower work into the chute and it's gone!!! I wish I had that in my house!!!

Here's one of my favorite memories from the Amsterdam Hortifair 2009 - a basket of kittens at the Kordes greenhouse near Aalsmeer. Their job: keep down the mice! Kordes is the breeder of a number of our favorite roses, including Alexandra, Frisco, Eskimo, Karamel Antike, and our new rose Romantik Antike.

These kitties were right in between the rose beds. So I guess they will be right at home in the greenhouse when they are grown up!!!
